Alhambra Moors High School Class of 1958
117 days to go!
Welcome, Moors!

Welcome to the Reunion website for Alhambra Moors Class of 1958!

Wow, can you believe it has been 50 years?  We can’t!  From what we hear from the troops out there and the ones we know, most of you are doing great and finally enjoying retirement!  It’s great to be on the baby boomers’ leading edge, isn’t it.  At least we (probably) won’t outlive Social Security.

As you may know by now, a few die-hards have gotten together and are planning a 50th reunion.  We thought that in honor of this milestone event we would make it a weekend to remember.   First off, we decided it should be held in Alhambra, for a lot of reasons which you will see.  And we were able to find a very nice place for the dinner— Almansor Court, south of Mission on the old Almansor Park Golf Course.  They have built a very nice facility for weddings, parties and reunions and have been very pleasant to work with.

Here's our plan:

Friday night, September 12, 2008 - Football Game - Unfortunately, the football schedule was changed and the first game is NOT a home game.  It is against Glendale High School at Glendale, 1440 E. Broadway, Glendale, CA 91205, 818-242-3161.  Any who wish to attend are welcome to do so.  You will be on the visitor side in the bleachers.  Since it is not at home, we won't be able to do some of the things we had planned.  Other options, however, are:

  • Dinner at Petrillo's - 833 E. Valley Blvd., San Gabriel, CA 91776, 626-280-7332 - self-organized
  • Small Gatherings or Grammar School reunions - self-organized
  • Dessert at Twohey's - Twohey's will be holding a special room for us later in the evening for any of you who want to indulge in one of those great hot fudge sundaes, or maybe onion rings, 1224 N. Atlantic Blvd., Alhambra, CA, 626-284-7387.  No host food and beverages.

Saturday morning, September 13, 10:00 a.m. - A tour of the AHS campus for all who are interested, led by student service club members.  101 S. 2nd St., Alhambra, CA 91801, 626-308-2342.  We will meet at the main entrance on 2nd St.

Saturday night, September 13, 6:00 p.m. – No Host Cocktails and Reunion Dinner at Almansor Court (we decided against the expense of a dance floor and D.J., but will have lots of 50's music and a fun program).  You will have your choice of entree:  Roulade of Chicken, Prime Rib, or Salmon.  Vegetarian can also be accommodated.  The dress will be smart casual (no jeans).  700 S. Almansor St., Alhambra, CA 91801.  Phone:  626-570-4600.

Sunday morning, September 14, 10:00 a.m. - A Breakfast Buffet at the Embassy Suites in Arcadia, 211 East Huntington Dr., Arcadia, CA 91006, 626-445-8525.  For those who stay at the Embassy Suites, a cooked-to-order breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday is included in the price of the room.  This will include the Breakfast Buffet on Sunday.

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Embassy Suites in Arcadia.  But there are many other nice hotels in that area.  Our thought is that a weekend of events would be an even bigger draw for people who have to come some distance and would give everyone more options and opportunities to visit with old friends.

Right now, our biggest challenge is contacting everyone, but fortunately we live in the age of technology.  We have a website and you have found it!!  This is NOT Classmates.com.  This is our very own website.  Here you will find recent photos and messages from classmates, photos from the last reunion, and an opportunity to register and pay (by credit card) for the events you want to attend.  If you would rather pay by check, contact Sheila Gilman (below) and ask her to send you a letter and registration form.

We really want your e-mail address and your mailing address.  Please sign in using the green tab on the Classmates page and give us your info.  Also, send in your photos and stories.  This site can be a great Memory Book resource for you.  One of the features you will find on this site is a list of lost alumni.  Check it out and if you can help us find someone, let us know.  However, this is not where you are to enter your information.

One last thing, we have tried to keep the cost down as much as possible for the weekend.  However, if you would like to underwrite a portion of the event, please let us know.  We already have one donor who is underwriting the cost of the decorations and another donating the cost of the name badges.  Other ideas might be:  the wine with dinner ($300 - $500 depending on attendance), mailing expenses ($300), or any amount to cover general expenses.  Any moneys leftover will go into the Scholarship Fund (see below).

The committee has decided that in honor of this milestone reunion, we would like to take a collection for a scholarship for an AHS student graduating in 2008.  We decided we would give it to the #58 ranked student in the senior class.  This scholarship would go to the college chosen by the student and would be applied to either tuition or books.  This will be a huge surprise to a student who may not be getting a lot of other scholarships and could really use the help.  There will be a place for you to add your donation to your online registration.

To register online for all of the events and make your donations, please go to the Events page.  We now have prices listed, so those of you who already signed up, thanks for letting us know you are coming, but we need you to sign up again with appropriate payment included.  Thanks so much.

Thanks so much for the enthusiastic support we have received so far.  This will be a great reunion, one worthy of a great class!  We hope you can be part of it.
